Open Question: Why won't my computer monitor receive a signal?
Hey,
My friend owns an Acer Aspire computer (with Windows Vista - about 1 year old) and is having a crapload of problems with it. It's had a virus (or something) for the past 3 weeks...everytime he went to open a program, the "open with" screen comes up, and he has to browse to the program he wants to open the file with (and half the time that doesnt even work). I tried 'System Restore", and even browsed to the base file in the System32 folder---but an error message saying "Rundll32.dll" or something pops up...All this told me his systems totally messed up and he probably has a virus. That's not the complete problem.
His monitor stopped receiving a signal. He had the cable hooked from his monitor to an "HD" port in the back of his computer...with an adapter. Next thing he knows, the monitors not receiving a signal, so he calls me.
I switch the cable to a different (regular) VGA port on the back of the computer, and the monitor came back on (same b.s. problems with the computer, but at least the screen was on!). I noticed that the "Found New Hardware" screen came up, and it recognized his NVidea GeForce graphics card (or monitor) as new hardware....it installed and everything was cool.
Well, after we had shut down and restarted the computer, the monitor wouldn't pick up anymore...in either port. It says "No Signal"...I disconnected the cable, and the monitor lets me know that the cables disconnected, so it has to recognize a connection to the computer, but there's "No Signal"
Im assuming that the virus ate up the video-driver (on each port), causing the driver to be scrambled and unrecognizable by the computer, therefore the monitor won't receive any signal - but I don't know if Im right, and what to do to fix it.
If anybody can help, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks
